Founded in 2008, Laurent Cohen-Tanugi Avocats is an international boutique firm, drawing from the wide range of experience of its founder. A member of the Paris and New York Bars, Laurent Cohen-Tanugi practiced as a partner at two of the most prestigious international law firms and as General Counsel of a global corporation over a career of thirty years, while also a renowned writer, public figure and opinion leader on the French, European, and international stage.

The Firm is thus well-positioned to take on a wide range of cross-border engagements, whose common feature is their strategic and sensitive nature and the high degree of intuitu personae, independence and experience they require as a result.

The Firm focuses on three main practice areas:

  • international mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, where we are involved in strategic planning, negotiation and drafting of the principal documentation;
  • international arbitration and litigation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, where Laurent Cohen-Tanugi acts as arbitrator, counsel, mediator, or expert witness;
  • economic regulation, corporate governance and regulatory compliance, in particular in the areas of anti-corruption and competition law, where the Firm has already carried out two mandates in the role of independent compliance monitor. Laurent Cohen-Tanugi is to date the only French lawyer to have been appointed independent corporate monitor in connection with a major FCPA matter by the United States Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission.

Composed of a small Franco-American team, the Firm can draw on a wide international network of specialists as required by the mandates with which it is entrusted. Depending on the type of assignment, the Firm works in close collaboration with the in-house teams of the companies and public organizations that call on its services, or concentrates instead on the role of “lawyer’s lawyer,” a useful resource for large corporate law firms.
